Srinagar (Reuters) - A bomb exploded on Kashmir's main city on Friday, killing a prominent Muslim cleric, police and witnesses said, the first such attack near a mosque in recent years.
Moulana Showkat Shah, head of Jamiat-e-Ahle Hadith Jammu and Kashmir are involved in social activities, are entering the mosque to lead Friday prayers when the bomb exploded. A congregation of injury.
There are no hard-line group claimed responsible for the attack in Srinagar, summer capital of Kashmir state of India.
Showkat, an ally of the pro-independence Kashmiri leader Yasin Malik, had become targets of attacks by members of the hardline group because of its relationship with the moderate faction of pro-independence groups.
The violence in Kashmir is claimed full, but controlled in part by India and Pakistan, subsided at its lowest point since an armed rebellion erupted in 1989. Nearly 50,000 people have been killed since then.
However, the state was still hit by anti-Indian sentiment, which erupted last summer a large-scale demonstrations. More than 100 people died, mostly due to shot police.
