Preventing Bacterial Vaginosis – Tips to Help You Prevent BV and Have it Healthy Down There

Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) is an embarrassing medical problem caused by an overgrowth of a certain kind of bad bacteria called the anaerobes and an organism named Gardnerella Vaginalis. These bad bacteria are normally found in the vagina; present in controlled amounts along with the good bacteria called lactobacilli taking the responsibility of maintaining the homeostasis. But with BV, the lactobacilli are engulfed by the anaerobes preventing them from fulfilling their functions.

With the good bacteria thwarted by the bad ones, an imbalance will now occur. This causes the cramps, pain, itchiness, swelling and the foul-smelling odor and discharge of the vagina. This is a very serious problem in the part of any woman especially during sex when the odor is at its worst due to the increased moist along with the semen. Imagine how disastrous that would be for any couple. If only the penis had a nose, it would definitely curse its owner for trying to stick it inside a sewer and cut its head off before it ever touches the source of the smell.

There are ways in preventing Bacterial Vaginosis, so to keep your vagina smelling the way you want it to – like a flower (that any penis with a nose would love to sniff and squeeze it self into), read on.

Cotton is better. During those days you don\’t plan or expect to be showing your lingerie for some guy, you might want to stick with your cotton undies. They may not look as sensual as the see-through pairs you\’ve got but they do offer you protection from BV by absorbing moisture and bacteria.

Bad skinny jeans…bad! Although fashionable and sexy, this may not be recommended by your doctor if you want to prevent this disease. Think about it, if you are at a high risk for developing BV, then wearing these jeans is like squeezing a dead fish inside your vagina.

Breathe in, breathe out. Those pantyhose have got to go. Don\’t wear thick pants and anything that prevents the escape and entrance of air. This will prevent excessive moisture and let\’s your genitals breathe (assuming they have lungs).

Drier is better. In some instances, wet would be heaven! But setting that aside, a dry vagina is preferred. This keeps bacteria from multiplying too rapidly without the moisture as a medium. So as long as you\’re not being made to be wet or making yourself wet, keep it otherwise.

From front to back. When wiping, it\’s crucial that you do it right. Beginning from the front to the back, wipe it with a tissue once then use another to do the same motion. Don\’t think that you should only wipe the front part because it\’s what you use more often. This is part of a good hygiene, so this goes without saying.

Squeaky clean. Sure having fluids squirting inside your vagina may sound fun [for cleaning your vagina] but this may not always be the case. Douching may leave you so clean that you\’d probably squeak when you walk. Especially the vinegar-based formulas, you\’d be killing all the bacteria even the good ones.

These are just some of the ways to prevent Bacterial Vaginosis. They are very simple and easy to understand and implement. Unless you don\’t want your partner or anyone, for that matter, to smell fish market as you pass by, follow this simple guide and you\’ll be as fragrant as a new bloom orchid.
