The pirates will be tried fairly

KUALA LUMPUR - Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail (pictured) said the seven pirates were detained by the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) in the Gulf of Aden last Friday will be treated like other criminal cases in which investigations and fair trial will be conducted.

He said the case was still at the investigation stage and asked people not to make assumptions only.

"Attorney General's Office should review the paper before starting the investigation the alleged crimes," he told reporters at the Jalan Duta Court Complex here yesterday.

He said at present, the office was not involved in the investigation or direct the enforcement department to conduct an investigation and his office will investigate whether there is a case to sue them.

Although he admitted that he was the first case handled by his department, he said, the law can now be handled with all the offense allegedly committed by the pirates.
