East Timor Not to Leave the ASEAN Membership Application

JAKARTA - It was common knowledge when East Timor wants the new membership in the organization of Southeast Asian nations (ASEAN). But East Timor has not yet submitted its application until now.

"Indeed, after East Timor to become members of ASEAN this year," said the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Indonesia for the ASEAN Ngurah Swajaya, the discussion Indonesia's Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2011 in Jakarta, Wednesday (26/01/2011).
According to the Ngurah Swajaya, Indonesia today to continue to assist the human resource capacity of Timor Leste during the last four years. This is done for East Timor to have a diplomat who qualified in performing their duties.
Since separated from Indonesia in 1999, East Timor does have plans to become new members of ASEAN. Previously the country had ever had jajah Portuguese, plans to run for a member of ASEAN in 2012.
But this plan was accelerated into the year 2011, exactly where Indonesia holds the chair of ASEAN chairman. It could be East Timor's desire is to be discussed at the ASEAN summit in November.
