Actually, it's Diabetes Month according to the American Diabetes Association so we thought it a good idea to point out that it's not just people that get diabetes, dogs and cats get it too.
There are a lot of interesting facts about diabetes and cats and dogs that perhaps you didn't know. For example:
- in cases of feline diabetes, a combination of a low carbohydrate healthy diet, long-lasting insulin, and well-chosen dosage plans can in many cases partially heal a damaged pancreas and allow the cat's blood sugar to be controlled entirely by diet thereafter - unique to cats sadly
- diabetes is more common in dogs than cats
- cats metabolize insulin more rapidly than dogs or humans
- the typical canine diabetes patient is middle-aged, female and overweight at diagnosis"
